Insecure Season 4 Episode 1 Recap

It is now spring, the world is basically on time out and Insecure is back. *A faint "Yay!" from the quarantined crowd.* Allergies, coronavirus, and some mess now strectched to 10 episodes...where do I begin?! I took a look back on how we left off from season 3, and not a lot has changed. Issa is working on her block party with Condola. Yes the young lady who went on a date with Lawrence. Molly is the same; a walking projector and a passive aggressive puppeteer when it comes to a caring man's feelings. Lawrence is actually growing, has officially left Issa alone BUT is now with CCdola. Y'all know mama is the carbon copy, FaceTune version of Issa...can't tell me otherwise. Tiffany is still pregnant (no miracle TV babies here, they're working on real time), and Kelly is well Kelly.

Told you not a lot has changed.

I want you to keep in mind throughout the season that this episode starts off with Issa saying, "Honestly...I don't f*ck with Molly anymore," after the block party is thrown.

Issa and Molly are still cool for now; they are embracing self care Sunday's the Cali way; weed and yoga.

Issa officially has a buddy with benefits, Calvin.

I am still traumatized by the TSA bae sex scene. I kept on screaming at the television screen like a disappointed mother. BUT glad Issa has gotten into the idea that she just simply needs a nut off and doesn't have to deal with ghosts (cough, cough Nathan) for a companion.

Now Tiffany...you know Lawrence has potential to sweep anyone off their feet. Its keeping them that is the problem. She should've briefed Issa so she wasn't side swiped by the reality that Lawrence has really, really moved on. Issa and Molly do have a dependency problem, because Issa's thoughts after the meeting were very bothering to me. Condola is really put in between a rock and a hard place. Now Lawrence...he has grown a lil', because a couple of seasons ago he didn't want to even be around Issa. Remember when he called her a hoe...I am still hurt by that.

Molly has been playing herself since season 1, and we ALL know that. Her passive aggressive notions to control ALL her relationships (besides the one with her and Dro) is tired. Glad Andrew picked up on the bullshit and dipped into someone else, slightly. The cold shoulder from Molly during the mixer was uncalled for. She's trying to find an out when it comes to her poor decisions making when it comes to showing her true feelings.

Losing out on a good guy is not the answer, and projecting on your best friend isn't it either. F*cking a married man is messy, sus.

Strong companionship is quite important for this Living Single/Girlfriends offspring show. The current story line showing the complications of dating within friend groups is amazing to explore and interesting to watch. Remember on Living Single when Max dated Regine's ex? It was messy in the beginning but they got over because it was a comedy.

Then there was the opening story line on Girlfriends when Toni dated Joan's ex...that was just completely f*cked up. Then she had sex with Joan's boyfriend at the end of the season...WTF was wrong with Toni?

Whether Issa severs any ties with Condola or not, she is going to run into her when it comes to Tiffany. If Condola stopped dealing with Lawrence then there is the possible outcome of Lawrence resenting Issa because Condola is a decent woman...so far. Lastly if Lawrence told Condola to not work with Issa he would look like he still had feelings for his ex. Messy all around, but y'all get the gist.

The theme running through this episode was growth. Issa grew from just toying around with goals and dreams to now putting the work in and making something come to life. She's connecting the dots on what she's doing in her passion and personal life. Molly has grown to see that she is just being a fool with the idea of dropping Andrew. Hopefully she can see that expressing her true feelings will help her. Lawrence is presenting himself as if he is over Issa. I say 'presenting' because this could be his representative making him look good so he could see what Condola is all about. Y'all know this man is fickle. All in all it has opened up to where we left off, a hot ass mess.
