Insecure: Season 3, Episode 5 Review

Issa and co. are going to Coachella to see the Queen Bey, and to have a last hurrah before Tiffany dives into motherhood. Every woman loves a girls' trip. You and your friends from childhood, college, maybe even work all come together and enjoy the world outside of their individual lives and leave the stress at home. But lordy was this a serious girls' trip. We had workin', stressin', drugin', partyin', sexin' and runnin' into exes all rolled into one episode.
Issa is all smiles (or fake ones) after quitting her job. I'm not surprised she quit though, once Freida got that promotion I knew it was going to be downhill from there. The Coachella fits are being picked up and moves are being made but Issa hasn't heard from Nathan since the kissing on the mouth and tacos from last episode. This man is so full of spontaneity yet is so mysterious. A man I have always wanted until I saw it on my television screen. At this point the universe can keep it because I deff don't want someone like Nathan. Them light eyes draw Issa into over sharing her life all the time, yet she knows the amount of a mustard seed of his.

En route to their weekend getaway Issa sees Tiffany, Kelli, but no Molly. Lord. We all should've known from Molly agreeing to work on the weekend that this was going to be a disaster. Anyone who watches Insecure knows Issa can't have fun without Molly being around and vice versa. Their codependency is frightening, but I get why Issa was low key freaking out. Issa finally convinces Molly to make time for work while away, and the ladies make their way to their rented home for the weekend.
Just as we all knew was going to happen, Issa is on the opposite side of the spectrum with energy trying to hang (or a lack there of) with Kelli and Tiffany. Tiffany, pregnant, is trying to take it down "for the baby". Kelli is gone beyond her days after she took an edible. She was banking on the plan to have fun in the fields but instead is telling herself to stop laughing. Shaking my head, I was Kelli once...or twice. When Molly tries to two step her way into girls' weekend she is greeted with an asleep trio. But this doesn't stop her from working. I admire her work ethic, but this is honestly a coverup to get over Dro. Let's be real y'all, she fell hard and is irked that she's in this polyamorous mess.
Morning comes and Issa is hype to see the Queen. For the prices of those tickets I would be too. They had passes for the whole weekend, I'm assuming, and they already wasted a day. If I was Issa I would've left the downer duo and had fun listening to Sza talking about how her man is someone else's man by myself. She's banging pans and taking shots then gets news from Nate that he is in town for Coachella as well. Pause, Tiffany dead took a shot of vodka...mmmkay.

A pool party is on the itinerary for the first half of the day. Molly's outfit was to die for by the way. Well lookie lookie lookie, Nathan has an unbuttoned shirt, chest out, and cute friends to match that sexy he has going on. Molly peeps Issa's game and goes along after she spots the cute Rush Hour duo standing next to Nathan. After a bad joke made by one of the friends and Natasha Rothwell stealing another scene (in my opinion), gang is popping mollies. The fact that Tiffany had to get stank for the friend to understand he's wilding out made my soul smile. I love when the bougie have to get gutta, it makes my day. My eyes fell out when I saw them poppin them thangs like tic tacs though.
Everyone is high as a kite and enjoying or not enjoying life (in Molly's case). Issa's senses are at an all time high, and the drugs are making her hornier within every passing second. Nate wants to give her a fingertip rub down and she is basically ready to dry hump him. Has Nathan always spoken slow or was it the drugs? One thing about this light eyed boy wonder is the fact that he can connect to her soul faster than any other guy before, I'm guessing of course. All the men we have been introduced to from Issa's life knew her from her past. We don't know how she met Daniel and Lawrence so we don't know how fast they connected, but if they connected like she has with Mr. Nathaniel we got problems. One little hiccup and I can feel this fading away sooner than later. I can see that he is hiding something, but I don't know what yet. Yes, he gives that lame excuse that he was trying to save face from looking thirsty, or coming too strong, but when men want something they go in, full force.
The crew remembers why they're here and move their way to the actual festival. In the midst of fun times I see these fools popping yet another molly. At this point why do I even have an inch of hope for them. Everybody is all boo'd up and poor Tiff is bopping with the baby. She lays down the law on the group about using different areas of the festival in shifts, but no one is taking her seriously (shocker). Hot in the ass Issa finds her way over to the ferris wheel with Nate after she tries to figure out why he ghosted. Sis has a rhyme session and he joins in. Now I can see why she's falling for him, he gets her. Kelli vanishes with one of them friends for food and Molly is straight trippin'. Tiffany the only one sober is watching this all unfold and is lowkey embarrassed (in my opinion). Issa and Nate are having soul connection(s), and I see that Nate is a great supporter. Compared to Daniel this is a breath of fresh air. Next thing we know Issa is getting freaky on the ferris and her homegirls are on the bad end of this drug induced high.
From Molly being saved from dying (I'm just being dramatic) to Kelli throwing bows with Shelby on the shoulders, everything is going wrong. After the wild hump on the wheel Issa gets a call that things are going downhill.

Poor Kelli gets tazed for trying to run, in slow motion, to Bey and Molly is freaking over her job once again. Ms. Rothwell is just comedic gold on this show. Molly blew mine looking for a laptop and TIFF-A-NY sis what were you thinking? This was a lot and I was lowkey triggered at the same time during this scene. Think back, I know this has had to be you and your friends just once in your life.
The next day everyone laughs the messed up day off, but there are some deep rooted problems that they need to discuss (in my opinion). Tiff tries to find water yet these crazy women have nothing but vodka in the fridge. Segue to a trip to their local convenience store. This scene with Issa and Amanda Seales got to me hard, real feelings were thrown on that set. Well not towards each other, but you can feel they have been there before. Issa is lost in this mega 7-Eleven and as she is asking for assistance guess who she runs into? Lawrence Hive are y'all happy now?
Well this was a lot. I felt that this episode was the purest of the season. I feel for Issa with the whole not knowing your next step in life. I feel like some of her friends don't give her enough credit. Yes she did mess up quitting her job while rent is due, but honestly who wants to work with a company or career they don't love? Molly is blatantly trying to overwork and prove herself at her new job because she can't control another part of her life. Hopefully she gets it together because these control issues are out of control. Kelli, no, Natasha Rothwell is doing just fine. I love how she gave this character depth with only a couple of features. Sis snags men every outing, has a nice job and life for herself she just drinks and gets high a little more aggressively than others.

Lastly, Tiffany, poor little tink tink. Her character is going through an aspect of life no one really wants to go through. Outgrowing friends or lovers. She has everything but is losing something she loves the most, her friends. I love the honesty she shares with Issa, she's better than me because my pride will step right in front of my true feelings in almost every scenario. The diversity of an all black cast is what I love.

Oh and Lawrence...hey sis, how's life? *rolls eyes* Oh boy, next week should be interesting.
