Grown-ish Season 2, Episode 2: Nothing Was The Same Recap

Okay, one episode down, it wasn’t that bold like last season’s first episode but you know, you win some and you lose some. Anywho...Zoey really worked my nerves this episode. But I can’t complain because there are couples controlled by one partner who wants the outside world to perceive them in a certain light. *cough* Youtube couples.

Don’t get me wrong I love a good YT couple, but if you don’t have a bond before the channel is set up...well let me put it this, there has to be a slight reason why Queen Naija is with Clarence and not Chris Sails.
Zoey has been and apparently still is driven by social media. If you don’t remember her internship and the episode with Elaine Welteroth then you should not be reading this recap. She sulks at the fact that she and Luca are not #relationship goals. *rolls eyes* Aaron is an R.A. (residential advisor) and does what an R.A. does best, create events for the residents to enjoy. An all-white housing facility (because I don’t know if they are a frat house or an all white dorm like in Dear White People) has a “festival” with Trippie Redd. Yeah, I was turned off once I heard Trippie as well. *sidebar* I don’t know about y’all but Vivek’s strong yearning to be white is bothering me...big time. But Aaron’s For Us By Us event made my soul smile until his movie selection was revealed. I really thought it was Black Panther. Whatevs.
Throughout the movie night Zoey blew me and Luca’s being because she was doing too much. Ana and Vivek’s characters are problematic and I don’t understand why they have so many black friends. Whatevs, again. Zoey and Luca’s dilemma is very common in a millennial relationship; a lot of miscommunication and emotionless yet emotional people trying to express themselves without looking panini pressed. Why do I feel like Zoey is a baby Joan Carol Clayton.

*shrug* Just a thought. And since tf when did #relationshipgoals really hinder a relationship? Unless we are getting a check off of likes most people won’t even know that I am in a relationship. Zoey and Luca argue and part ways, you know the reg theatrics. Zoey runs into Aaron and he schools her on what both people are doing wrong in their awkward relationship. Aaron is really taking his role as an advisor very seriously...I like it. Zoey and Luca patch things up and say those lovely three words. Aww...it only took 25 minutes of a show for someone to talk sense into Zoey. I don’t know how Dre and Bow do it, I am drained.
This premiere was cute, like I said in the first recap. We’ll circle back around next week to see if the show gets better. I need season one vibes again. Really don’t want to leave this show because of a sophomore slump. Oh and if y’all didn’t see it in the scene with Aaron and Ana at the movie night, y’all are blind.
